Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a speaker. Feminist Frequency is a website which hosts video and commentary on the representation of female characters in popular media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that investigates representations of women in narratives from popular culture. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes about women and how they are depicted in pop culture. Additionally, she works to raise the awareness of harassment on social media targeted towards women as well as those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in the field of political and social thought from York University. As a public speaker, she is highly sought after and has given talks at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in the gender issue and feminist movements from a very young age. In 2009, when she was still studying at university she launched her Feminist Frequency web site. This ambitious woman planned to create an online series that examined gender representation in games, however, she was also the subject of an online campaign to harass her. But the assault did not deter her instead it made her more determined as a feminist media critic. Many awards have been presented to her for her contributions to the field she contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her role as a critic of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. The non-profit explores the portrayals of women in pop culture today.
