Dolly Parton was born on January 19, 1946, at Locust Ridge Tenn. She was raised with 12 other kids. She had a vivid imagination that was a great way to get away from life's harsh reality. life. Songs were being written by her before she could write or read. She got her first guitar at age 8 and began performing on the Knoxville Tenn radio station at the age of 11. She recorded her first album during the same year with Gold Band Records, a small independent label. When she was still in highschool she garnered a name in the local music scene however she longed for a bigger stage. When she was graduating in 1964, she moved to Nashville. Her first charting hits for Monument Records included Dumb Blonde and Something Fishy both in 1967. Porter Wagoner had been looking for a female vocalist to join his syndicated show in the years prior to this. Parton was offered the gig and in the year 1967, she signed with RCA Records in 1968 and began singing for the Grand Ole Opry in 1969. Then, in 1974, she left The Wagoner's Show due to the popularity of her own songs such as Joshua Coats Of Many Colors or Jolene was surpassing their joint albums. Parton recorded I Will Always Love You for Wagoner following their split. It reached No. 1 for the first time in 1974.
